AT-HOME DOG EUTHANASIA – HOW IT'S DONE

The process is calm, gradual, and completely painless. We explain each step to you.

  • 1

    CLINICAL ASSESSMENT & DISCUSSION

The vet comes to your home and takes time to get to know your pet. We discuss their health, answer your questions and make sure you feel ready. There is no pressure.

  • 2

    PREANESTHESIA – SEDATIVE INJECTION

A sedative injection (pre-anesthetic) is administered, gradually immersing the animal in a deep, peaceful sleep. This stage is crucial—the pet fully relaxes and perceives nothing from this point onwards.

💡 Many people search for "lethal injection"—in reality, the first injection is simply to induce sleep.
  • 3

    CATHETER PLACEMENT

Depending on the animal, the intravenous catheter is placed either before or immediately after premedication. It ensures stable intravenous access, allowing us to deepen anesthesia and administer medications safely, calmly, and without discomfort.

  • 4

    ADMINISTRATION OF EUTHANASIA DRUG

Only when the pet is in a deep sleep is the euthanasia drug administered through the intravenous catheter. The heart stops peacefully within a few seconds. The animal feels nothing – it simply continues to sleep.

IT DOESN'T HURT AT ALL

The pet sleeps peacefully before anything else. The process is designed to be completely painless. Many owners tell us it was much calmer than they expected.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No. The procedure is painless. First, a pre-anesthetic/sedative injection is given so that the pet sleeps peacefully, and then the euthanasia drug is administered intravenously via an IV catheter.

Usually 30–60 minutes total (depending on the animal's condition and the need for additional adjustment/calming time). The "final" stage after deep sleep is usually very short.

Subject to availability. In cases of severe pain, shortness of breath, or collapse, we strive to give immediate priority or direct you to the safest step.

To spare you from having to deal with practical matters during such an emotionally charged time, we organize them in advance. We provide you in good time with the contact details of a collaborating animal cremation/cemetery service and discuss with you the option that suits you best. This way, after euthanasia, the collection can be carried out in a relatively short period, with discretion and respect, without the need for the body to remain in the house for many hours.

Yes. We undertake the registration/update in the EMZS (gov.gr) so that the register is correctly updated. We need the microchip number and the owner's basic information.

Availability is by appointment. In case of urgent need, we try to help as much as possible or direct you to the safest next step.
